President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday appealed to Nigerians, not to abandon him. He futher said that, despite the several challenges the country is facing as a nation it would continue to remain one indivisible country.
The president who stated this during the church service to commemorate his one year in office said “I want assure all Nigerians that Nigeria cannot be disintegrated by any form and the present terror attacks across the country came as a thief in the night.
My request for Nigerians is for us to continue in prayers while we do our best to satisfy the needs of all citizens.”
He said his government is committed to ensuring that the country attain its potentials.
The President, who read the Second Lesson of the service from Romans 8: 28-39, said he was hopeful that with Nigerians rallying round him and his administration, the nation would overcome its challenges.
“The only request I ask of you in this trying times is stand by me,” he said.
He futher said his administration was putting all things in place to end the spate of violence in the country.
Jonathan said, “I believe we will succeed. Nigeria will move forward.”
“I thank all of you for your prayers. That is why we are hopeful that even though we have challenges, we shall overcome.
“Half way into our tenure, the President had health challenges, you all know what later happened.
“Because of your prayers and commitment, we are lucky that Nigeria did not derail.
“As a nation, we have a major challenge: terror that we never expected. We are faced with the reality of terror.
“We shall overcome by your prayer and commitment. We are doing all we can do. We were caught unawares. They came like a thief in the night.
“I will address the nation on Tuesday. One thing I can say is that even though some people have predicted Nigeria’s disintegration. Nigeria shall never disintegrate. Our forefathers worked hard to unite us
In his sermon, the former primate of the Anglican Church, Rev Peter Akinola called on president Jonathan to ensure that corrupt people in his government are flushed out.
He told the president to “flush out from your government all political jobbers and predators that hang around the Presidency. Your government is too large, they make government redundant.
Send them back to farms to grow cassava, cocoa etc. We know you are not an army general, but since Nigerians have voted you as the commander in chief, you are a general of generals”.
On the violence being perpetrated by Boko Haram, Rev Akinola urged the president not to negotiate with the group, noting that “You open yourself to ridicule if you open dialogue to a group that has made the country ungovernable. Don’t treat them with kid gloves. You don’t.
Dialogue with crime. The problem is not Jonathan, it is because we started in wrong way and continue same way”. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of First Nigeria President without vision ( weather good or bad ) ?
ReplyDeleteBut Your Excellency you have been sitting down ever since!
ReplyDeleteLet us pray for him.....If not,we are the ones that will suffer it most.It is God that put him there.Whether we like it or not,if God has not ready to remove him......We are on our own.If you are Christian, the bible says pray without ceasing. And in all these things,we should be praying not throwing stones.
ReplyDeleteGod will not come directly to put or remove any president . Everything is through we Nigerian . We gave him our mandate , same process we are going to deny him our mandate come next election.
ReplyDeleteIf PDP manipulate coming election by allowing MORON to lead again . This country will brake into 36 state .
I m not advocatn for Northerner but my concern is poor and average people of this country that are suffering everyday as a result of poor governance.
Many graduate that are working cannot avoid three good meal talk less of daily internet subscription .
I think you people that are supporting bad and poor leader should move out and sensor peoples' opinion about the present set of leader.
Also , people with kind heart will no that Nigerian are really suffering.
A friend of mine once tell me that he always afraid of receiving call from his friend( graduate ) bcos of GIVE GIVE everyday. However , he confess that these people are among the best brain during there days in University.
It baffles me a lot when i remember Nigeria Problems.
Choose a saint from your family to replace Jonathan or go and take over from him, this is for those who only have concern for material things talking of economy when our faith is under attack and followers been killed just because a christian is the president. As for me my priority is for Nigeria to continue to have christian president while we pray for God to guide and protect the leadership and the nation at large. What many dont know is that who ever you think is fit cannot make difference but only when God approves, prayer is what can get us this approval not our opinion about this person and that person.
ReplyDeleteThe president should be reminded that Nigerians have always supported him and will continue to support him because we were the ones that voted him into power. But he should also sit back and take stock on how he has paid us back with the mandate we gave to him: Our new year present was hike in pump price. Our mid year present is increase in electricity tariff, even-though we are merely paying for darkness. All what Nigerians have been getting is promises and nothing more. GEJ, should just sit down and design a good and formidable programme to alleviate the suffering masses. Though we all know that the president is vision less and lacks the moral uprightness to tackle the enormous fraud going on during his tenure. God save Nigerians
