Poor Power supply to last till July

For many Nigerians that have experienced poor power supply in recent weeks, you might just have to endure a little bit more till everything gets back to normal at the hydro-power plants. Until July precisely, when the nation’s dams will have accumulated more water needed for more power generation

According to the Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji at a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, he blamed the limited amount of rainfall last year and the shortage of gas supplied to the gas plants, as the major cause for the outages, which will still last for the next three months.

According to the Minister “a number of the gas power plants have gas constraints, gas limitation; some are not getting at all, we don’t want to blame gas as the only reason why we have power problem in the last three weeks because of limited rain last year. The black flood did not really arrive; as a result we have severe shortage with water.”

Professor Nnaji also stated that “we have had to really be careful about how water is managed within the hydro-plants such as Kanji Jebba and Shiroro dams.”

He also explained that the power plant at Shiroro dam, is presently working for three hours due to the low level of water from the Shiroro dam. “Power is shut down for most of the day except from 7 to like 10’O clock.” “That is when power is available” he quipped.

This he affirmed “will continue to be so until July when we will have the black flood” he stated.

Professor Nnaji also revealed that the plants are undergoing reconstruction to ensure maximum capacity and he also announced structural adjustments in the management of major power distribution and transmission companies in the country.

  6. It's a pity that Nigeria has horrible pple as leaders. What a shameless Nnaji or what's his name. In fact, the worse part of it is that Nigeria is only blessed with good for nothing leaders who only perform creditably well outside the country but only becomes a curse to their fatherland whenever they are opportune to serve the country. What a shammmmmme!

  9. I get so enraged when i hear rubbish reports like this from d power sector....It's already a major shame dat nigeria is still havin power issues in 2012....Why dont d minister say he's incompetent & is happy dat nigeria has power problems cuz his generator sales & some inder d table deals he & his cronies have with major generator distributors.
It's proper whenever he comes to give such rubbish, unsensible reports, one should rush and land heavy blows on his face...Next time he wouldnt talk to people like they're stupid.....evn in july, they wont b able to generate more than 4,000 MW anyway....they even have d audacity and lack of shame to give such an absurd report....I feel at times, our country is cursed, seriously....when will d plenty yawa end....foreign companies should come and take over d power supply & yank d scissors off from d current power sector...a child shuldnt run around with scissors, cuz its apparently d fg cant handle supplying power to nigerians....I wont doubt that if foreign companies take over powersupply, we'll definitely have steady power..
