Lagos roads blocked for Nigeria's First Lady, Patience Jonathan

Traffic on Lagos Island, was paralysed and roads blocked for several hours yesterday as security agents cordoned off some areas because Patience Jonathan, the first lady of the federal republic of Nigeria was attending an event on the Island, consequently social and commercial activities on Lagos Island was paralysed for over nine hours.

NigerianEye gathered that different routes were cordoned off: Bonny camp via Lekki route, Ikoyi route and the popular CMS, leaving the commuters to go through alternative routes, while others were traped in traffic for several hours

Blocked Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island
A resident of the area, Mr. Abraham Akpan, who spoke with newsmen said that many commuters and motorists were trapped in the snarl which stretched beyond Victoria Island for almost nine hours.
He said, “The gridlock was caused by the visit of Patience Jonathan. She came to Lagos on a ‘thank you’ visit to South-South women in Lagos for voting for her husband in 2011. The event was held at Ocean View Restaurant on Victoria Island.

“The traffic jam started from 8.30am to about 5.30pm. It actually compounded the traffic situation on the Island. To be candid, many people were trapped in the hold-up for close to nine hours.”

The president’s wife was said to be in Lagos for a two-day visit to thank Lagosians for voting for her husband in the April 2011 presidential election and to mobilise women to pray against the menace of Boko Haram.

  10. This is one of the things we have to change for Nigeria to become a better country. The government knew there was no security in the country, they are not worthy to prove their worth as they know they are worthless.A good Government and Democratic official will not be afraid to enter Danfo with citizen, walk on the street and even drive anytime ,anyday in the country.
I once witnessed this when GEJ came to Lag in 2011.This is unfair,I belief Gov Fashola should look into this and stop allowing some element to spoil Lagos.Eko oni Baje o!

  13. That is flexing muscle on defenceless Nigerians. Why are they blocking road if ''they are on top of the situation''? It is not their fault but for people that voted for useless PDP, Nigeria should be great but corrupters and killers of Nigeria and Nigerians. I pray God punish them all with no exception (amen).

  15. So because the president's wife is visiting and so thousands of lagosians businessess and appointment should lie low inspite of the regular traffic. Excuse, we had better wake up and put up much more modern decorum.

  16. Nonesense. Yes there is no sense in making people to stay in traffic for several hours cos the president's wife is attending a function. Infact i do not see all these ceremonies in receiving her because she has come to say thank you. How appreciative have they been when they have put millions and millions of nigerians in penury. Excuse me, they had better watch it cos one day go be one day monkey go market e no go come back. Thank U.

  17. infact if say i see that so called Mrs Patience Jonathan i for beat her very well for keeping us waiting and for making us to missed our daily bread for the day. who knows how much she spend for this trip while the poor people are here suffering and by the way is it this yr that the husband got into a sit. this is eye service, she came on a thanks just for South South Lagos women to pray for her husband for him not to be killed by Boko Haram people then what of the innocent people Boko Haram have killed, what did he do about it. Nonsense Nigerians be wise so that they will not use money to take our life or confuse us.

  20. Actually he came to say a thank you to Lagosians, when it was exactly one year of meaningless administration, no security,no light, no good roads, when she waited endlessly for Lagos state Governor for their usual honorarium & it seems the Governor is not yielding, she just decided to come by herself," A proverbs in Yoruba says, Oju awo lawo fi ngba obe".

  21. Thank Lagosians my foot. Do not be fooled. The campaign for Jonathan to rerun in 2015 has kicked off unofficially. That was her mission. If they want to be grateful to us for voting them in, let them provide adequate supply of power, efficient means and transportation and supporting infrastructure.

  22. let the Jona's family learn to stop the raging boko haram sect &not the means of surviving of common nigerians. show your power in right direction if u av any

  23. We should stop complaining and move to action. Promises should not be taken again. There is always a point when promises go empty and actions are the only way to guarantee positions in office. We are over 150million, these corrupt officials are not even up to 5000. Nigeria is graduating for worse to worst. And we see these things and Jst complain, nothing else. Action is the key. Things like these is what moves other Nigerians to committing criminal activities from around the world to survive and get money.
