A man identified as an employee of the Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area, Lagos, died on Wednesday after falling off a moving lift on the eighth floor of the 12-storey building of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said that the mangled body of the deceased was recovered from the ground floor of the building.

The victim, Fatai was said to have stepped out of the lift when the doors opened midway on the eighth floor.

Fatai assumed that the lift had reached its destination, and he stepped into the air, fell off from the eight-floor till he hit the ground.

However sources gathered that the elevators were not in proper shape.

The remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary while police investigation continued into the matter.

  2. Definitely, the WAEC Management or whoever has the responsibility to maintain that building's elevator cannot be exonerated. If an elevator's door can open mid floor, it then means it was faulty and adequate notice should have been pasted to caution any would be user. Fatai pays a supreme price for someone else's negligence, too bad. May his soul rest in perfect peace and I pray Allah gives his family fortitude to bear the irrepairable loss.

  6. Am yet to comprehend this story. Is the lift different from the convenctional ones I use to know? or is it an OPEN lift with know compartment? Lifts are usually built into an enclosure and the door opens unto floors. It would have been difficult for one have such a fall except if the lift is leaking underneath and in that case the body would have dropped to the basement of the lift compartment. Well, let the Police investigate properly cos in Lagos all things are possible.
