The
House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora has warned Nigerians
seeking medical attention in India to stay off middlemen who parade
themselves as facilitators.
In
a statement at the weekend by its Chairperson, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa,
the committee warned that the introduction of these middlemen as “so
called health facilitators in both Nigeria and India has compounded the
plights of Nigerians.”
The
statement reads: “The Nigerian Mission in India has in the past two
years witnessed an upsurge in the number of Nigerians coming to India in
search of medical care as they believe that medical care in India is
comparatively cheaper and better.
“Recent
experience by the Nigerian Mission in India has shown that these middle
men have become exploitative in their approach to delivery because of
the great number of Nigerians seeking medicare in India.”
The
mission said over 20 percent of every bill paid by the Nigerian
patients goes to the middle men as commission and that they (middlemen)
“also extort money from would-be travellers and make them pay double.”

why not focus on the Nigerian health System and ensure no one needs to travel to India for medical advice, Nigeria, we like to treat symptoms and ignore the disease. by the way this should be an advice, not a warning.
ReplyDeleteAbike Dabiri, is the reason why Nigerians go to India because of a 'belief' that Indian healthcare is 'cheaper' than that of Nigeria? You seem to make it sound like there's healthcare in Nigeria. Do you and all your political henchmen get seen healthwise in Nigeria??? Helloooooo???
ReplyDeleteMy family friend just died this week of lung cancer. Up till a fortnight before she died, she was being treated for ARTHRITIS!!!!Bastard healthcare system!!! My father went twice tothe FMC with prostate cancer symptoms glaring and they checked him and gave him a clean bill of health - twice! He goes to Dubai for a general health check/holiday and the prostate is detected without his symptoms at that time! He goes to reconfirm in Canada, same prostate... that Nigerian medical system could not see. This is a man that believes so much in his country. These few cases and many more of our non-existent healthcare. Abike Dabiri and cohorts, pls dont annoy anyone with your statements. Dont fix the healthcare system. Keep getting your bespoke treatment and check ups abroad.
The need for advice or warning should not even arise if with all the so called "exploitation" by these "middlemen", Nigerians still find healthcare in India to be cheaper & better. It says a lot on the state of affairs in this country and the govt should bury its head in shame.
ReplyDeleteWell, it is a lesson to all Nigeria who does not believe in herb. Traveling to india for health care is not the solution. there are diseases including cancer of any type that can be treated with natural herbs.Even the medical doctor can confirm that prove but the will not say the truth, they will refer to india to make money from that source and finally the individual may not survive after spending money to travel. So there is need for warning.
